When it's wrong it's not right.. Politics and ethics

I've been increasingly annoyed by the political propaganda spewing forth from devices across Victoria.

I'm tired of hearing how little silos of need will get a little of what they need.. just enough to inspire gratitude in fact.. Tired of politicians being 'real', of millions of dollars being spent to ensure the 'real' polis get in till next time..

Problems don't run in 3 year cycles, vision can't be contained in campaigns.. More importantly real collaborative solutions take courage. Ethical solutions.. - more teachers for schools that need them most - are not vote winners..

Since when did it become right to do wrong?

Looking down on my online world

I am tired of using webcams which are positioned wrongly.  Why is it that every webcam I've ever used - and my imac is the worst - causes me to appear on the screen as if I'm looking down.

How hard is it to place a camera that you could actually look at - i.e. at eye height - so when you'r e talking to someone on the screen, your eyes don't appear half closed.

Is it just me?  In dream land I want my camera embedded in the screen so I'm looking at the camera and the screen simultaneously.

Off to look 'down' on my online world!

Groundhog day - or why do we have the same arguments again and again

As I spend many hours preparing a justification that will allow students access to You Tube I find myself wondering how many other people are working on the same argument at the same time.

Given that it's good enough for John Howard/Kevin Rudd et al, why is it not good enough for our students?

When you read the reams of discussion from the likes of Marc Prensky, Jimmy Wales, etc etc etc why is it that we are still arguing about whether or not it is a good thing.

As one student said to me today "access porn on a class computer" AS IF....

Given that we talk endlessly about individualism, why is it that when it comes to access issues, we group people relentlessly.
